BOARD MEETING MINUTES
DECEMBER 3, 2007

 

Attending:  Sherry Robarge, Robyn Harding, Lee Tyler, Karen Parrott, Paulette Joyce, Linda McCann, Rachel Kinicki, Lisa Soo, Suzanne Brozek, Mark Hickey, Jen Moss, Don Brady, Walter Foster, Beth McDonough, Marcia Cece Epstein, Erica Davidson, Pam Nourse, Donna Bottari, Sue Krikorian.

Secretary’s Report:  Marcia Cece Epstein.  A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the November 5, 2007 Minutes, amended as follows:   “The dessert sale netted $8,456.77 with $4,684 going into student accounts.  The Golf Tournament netted $7,003.00 broken down as follows:   (1) golf/dinner net $971.34; (2) Sponsors’ net $2,922.00; and (3) Auction net $3,209.90.”

Treasurer’s Report:  Lisa Soo.   Dessert sale figure is final …. Plan Sale is not final …. Parade money from the Quincy Christmas Parade will be going into participating students’ accounts.  A motion was made, seconded, and approved to allow Treasurer to move money at his/her discretion into the Money Market Account.    ….

A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the December 3, 2007 Treasurer’s Report, a copy of which is attached to and made a part of these Minutes.

Directors’ Reports: 

Mark Hickey.  Marching season over.  … $3,000 from the Quincy Christmas Parade will be given equally to all participating students.  A $1,000 prize was awarded the marching band for “Best in Division” This has not been received to date.   … The Winter Concert takes place Tuesday, December 11.   ….. Senior District Auditions, Eastern District:  11 chorus and 9 band members were accepted.   

D.C. Trip:  band will do a standstill performance at The Jefferson Memorial.  Second payment is due January 10 with the final balance due February 7.

Mr. Hickey appeared before the School Committee to present a budget which included a new set of uniforms as well as a request to enlarge the music program to include strings for grades 5-8.

Jen Moss.  Cabaret:  Students produced the show.  Don Brady organized chaperones.  Brendan Ahearn did A.V. and Dan Drinkwater taped the Saturday night show.   DVD’s will be ready before break.      

The Madrigals caroling schedule is as follows:  Three Main Performances:  12/5:  Boxborough Library; 12/9:  Acton Congregational Church; 12/12:  Robbins Brook Holiday Performance; 12/20:  Mt. Calvary Church.  Other performances:  12/8:  Lion’s Club Tree Sale; 12/15:  Ace Hardware, Talbot’s, Willow Books; 12/16:  Donelan’s Supermarket (2X); 12/22:  Talbot’s; 12/23:  Donelan’s Supermarket.  

Faneuil Hall:  Students (chorus and band) will perform at a cost of $10/student for transportation.  Approximately 85 vocalists are going – leaving 3:30, returning 9:00.

Winter Percussion:  28-30 students are participating under the direction of Larry Hough.

Winter Guard:  Weapon tryouts are this week.  18 students, including 1 new student, are participating.  Final sign up date is this week.

Poinsettia Sale.   Rebecca Gurley.  154 plants were sold for a total of $2,771.  Band and Color Guard participated.  Plants arrive this Friday with pickup on Saturday from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Membership:  Erica Davidson:  Membership will follow up on previous members who have not yet rejoined.

Music Banquet:  Erica Davidson and Kathy Olliver.  Expecting @450 guests and questioning whether the Elks will continue to satisfy our needs.  The two groups equal 384 students with small overlap.   Possibility of using the Halloween D.J. Prateek.  Chorus Historian is Andre Lenox; Band Historian is Dan Conrad.

A motion was made, seconded and accepted to adjourn.  Next meeting Monday, January 7, 2008.
