BOARD MEETING MINUTES
MARCH 16, 2009

Attending: Paulette Joyce, Wendy Bryson, Jan Rejto, Justyna Teverovsky, Beth McDonough, Lisa Soo, Jim Brozek, Susanne Brozek, Mark Hickey, Michelle Christensen, Patty Higgins, Karen Parrott, Walter Foster, Sue Niro, Jen Moss, Marcia Cece, Dave Clough, Jane Egge.

Secretary’s Report: Marcia Cece Epstein. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the February 2, 2009 Minutes as read.

Treasurer’s Report: Lisa Soo. Coffee sale netted $2,000, almost all going to students… monies were spent on Beezlebubs, Conductor in Residence, and Air Force Band. … money needed to be taken out of money market account to cover expenses. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept t he March 16, 2009, Treasurer’s Report, a copy of which is attached to and made a part of these Minutes.

Directors’ Reports:
Mark Hickey. Stepping Out concert tomorrow. … Winter Percussion will perform at standstill. Conductor in Residence will conduct concert band. … Jr. District Festival is first weekend in March. … All State is 3/26-28. … Seven students will stay at The Seaport Hotel and perform at Symphony Hall. Susanne Brozek will be awarded the Music Advocate Award at a special presentation. Congratulations Susanne! … The band is invited to march in The Citrus Bowl Parade – 12/28-31. The estimated cost is $1,000 - $400 for 3 nights in hotel, including breakfast, and admission to the Disney Parks. Airfare will be around $600. The band will perform for MICCA at Lexington High School on 4/3 at 7 p.m.

Jen Moss. Beezlebubs ve ry successful, performing for chorus, teachers and preschoolers. They held a workshop and performed for the band in the afternoon. … Pan choral successful; videotape is available. … A Quebec pre-trip meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on March 18. … Opera Awakening takes place April 3 and 4. A $1,200 grant was received from the AB Cultural Council. John Salvi will give a Master Class. ABFOD is covering ticket/production costs. ABFOM will pay for refreshments and be reimbursed with profits from its sale. ABFOM also will write a check to John Salvi and be reimbursed by the ABCC, with the bottom line contribution from ABFOM of $300.

Winter Programs. Winter Percussion performed in two shows, taking 1st place in the second show. Winter Guard took 1st place in its first show and while its mark went up the second week, they took 4th.

Coffee Sale. Wendy Bryson. It is recommended that students’ grade be=0 Aput on the forms for easier distribution.
Uniforms. Michelle Christensen. Orders for the pillows are coming in from alumni. It is suggested that forms and samples be available to the Stepping Out Concert. Mr. Hickey was asked to put samples in the school store. Hat cases and old yellow plumes have been sold for a net profit of $487. Shipping costs were split. There are over 400 pairs of pants and they will be going back on e-Bay.

Car Wash. Michelle Christensen. The date is set for May 16 with a rain date of 5/17.

Music Banquet: Susanne Brozek for Erica Davidson. A proposal was made to raise the ticket price. Historically, the banquet has always been a gift from ABFOM and, based on the economy, some organizations are actually looking at lowering prices. A motion was made by the Banquet Committee to raise the ticket price to $24.00 per ticket from $20.00 per ticket. The motion was unanimously voted down. The ticket price for the 2009 Music Banquet will remain at $20.00 per ticket.

Spring Fundraiser. Mark Hickey. After discussing the “Golf Ball Drop”, Mr. Hickey suggested that a simpler fundraiser, such as a raffle with a cash prize be entertained. Walter Foster will check on the legal requirements, such as permits necessary for “charitable gaming”.

A motion was made, seconded and approved to adjourn. Next meeting Monday, April 6, at 7 pm.
