BOARD MEETING MINUTES
NOVEMBER 3, 2008
Attending: Mark Hickey, Jen Moss, Suzanne Brozek, Michelle Christensen, Wendy Bryson, Lisa Soo, Erica Davidson, Walter Foster, Paulette Joyce, Beth McDonough, Dave Clough, Marcia Cece Epstein.
Secretary’s Report: Marcia Cece Epstein. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the October 6, 2008 Secretary’s Report with the following changes:
“Treasurer’s Report. Line three. Delete ‘the tax return is done’ and insert ‘Secretary of State filings are done;’ Page 2 “Halloween Party” After “student leaders” add the names: “Nicole Erikson, Jeff Taylor, and Norajehan Khan.”
Treasurer’s Report: Lisa Soo. Golf Tournament - $7417 is final number raised. Students earned $4,100 for their accounts from the pie sale. $280 was spent on the Halloween Party. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the November 3, 2008 Treasurer’s Report, a copy of which is attached to and made a part of these Minutes.
Directors’ Reports:
Mark Hickey. Student performance at MICCA finals was outstanding. The Halloween party was a success. The new uniforms look great. Expect post-season football. ….. Eastern District Auditions 11/22. $15/per audition per student. … Pie/dessert pickup on 11/22. … Quincy Holiday Parade 11/30. …. Hiring a conductor-in-residence. Applied for ABCC grant – requesting $1,000, but ABFOM must match that amount. The CIR will conduct part of the March 17, 2009 Concert. The ABCC should answer by December’s ABFOM Board Meeting so that a vote can be made. …. Concert band has begun. AB was not selected for this year’s Rose Bowl. Other options are being considered.
Jen Moss. Cabaret takes place 11/21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the H.S. Auditorium, a new venue to accommodate the larger number of participants. This program pays for workshops, Jeannie Furlan, and other expenses. Tickets can be purchased at W. Acton Market, from Ms. Moss, and during lunch periods. … Jane Egge will coordinate parent volunteers, but Cabaret is mostly run by students. Itinerary for the Performance Tour of Quebec and Montreal is finalized. … Still working on a joint concert. … First payment next week. All forms are in. … 17 chaperones will be joining the group. … Faneuil Hall, December 17… Holiday Winds rehearing with chorus. …. During the holiday season the Madrigals perform around town for a fee with the money used for chorus extras. 12/10 at 3 p.m.: Robbins Inn; 12/11 at 1 p.m. Mt. Calvary Church; 12/15 at 7 p.m. Boxborough Library; 12/16 at noon Acton Council on Aging. The complete list of times and locations is on the website.
Jeremy Denzer. Open house for Color Guard on 11/18 from 6-9 p.m. at T he Parker Damon School. Recruiting for both junior and senior high schools.
Mark Hickey for Winter Percussion/Winter Guard. Facility use being discussed; music received; presume there will be costuming needs.
Golf Tournament: Walter Foster. In this “wrap-up” Walter thanked the 31 Sponsors and the leadership, including: David Clough, Suzanne Brozek, Erica Davidson, Wendy Bryson, Lisa Soo, and Beth McDonald. Letters were sent out to all Sponsors with photos of their signage.
Dessert Sale: Pick up is Saturday, November 22. If a student solicits a sale and a person gives a money gift but does not buy a pie, the money goes to the student account as though they sold the pie.
Uniforms: Michelle Christensen. We will offer to sell the old uniforms to students for $50 which includes hat and yellow plume. Also discussed tak ing apart old uniforms and making keepsakes such as pillows. …. Michelle is requesting extra pieces, buttons, etc. for the new uniforms.
Poinsettia Sale. Suzanne Brozek. Last year this sale brought in $1,300; not a lucrative fundraiser, but have decided to go with it this year. The sale made less last year than the first year it was held; however, there was no delivery offered or town blitz. This year the sale will again include the blitz and delivery service. Discussed coffee sale and the need to find a new marketing contact at Dunkin Donuts.
A motion was made, seconded and approved to adjourn. Next meeting Monday, December 1, 2008.
