BOARD MEETING MINUTES
APRIL 6, 2009
Attending: Erica Davidson, Jen Moss, Mark Hickey, Suzanne Brozek, Lisa Soo, Janice Rejto, Beth McDonough, Wendy Bryson, Justyna Teverovsky, Paulette Joyce, Jeremy Denzer, Jane Egge, Donna Bottari, Patty Higgins, Susan Krikorian, Michelle Christensen, Marcia Cece Epstein.
Secretary’s Report: Marcia Cece Epstein. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the March 16, 2009 Minutes as read.
Treasurer’s Report: Lisa Soo. A new category entitled “Uniforms” has been added under “fundraising”. The cost of transportation has increased, and this month’s figure does not include Friday’s MICCA transportation. The ABFOM will be reimbursed for a portion of the monies given to John Salvi once he endorses his check. Winter Percussion season has ended and Winter Guard is about to end. Scholarship money has been set aside. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the April 6, 2009 Treasurer’s Report, a copy of which is made a part of these Minutes.
Directors’ Reports:
Mark Hickey. Steppin Out Concert very successful, with Ms. Deb Huber from UMass Lowell as a guest conductor. Thanks to ABFOM for its contribution. Suzanne Brozek received The Musical Advocacy Award at the All State Festival. The Citrus Bowl trip has been announced. A Silver Medal was awarded to the Concert Band at MICCA . The next performance is the Spring Concert on May 5. ….. The Junior High is preparing for the Great East Festival with approximately 160 students participating. Chaperones are needed. Interviews are being conducted to replace Bob Specian who is retiring.
Jen Moss. Thanks to ABFOM for supporting Opera Awakening. Some of the participating students were new to the stage. The Madrigals earned a Gold Medal at MICCA. There will20be a performance at Symphony Hall on April 25. …. The trip packet for the Quebec trip has been finalized.
Jeremy Denzer. Winter Guard wrapped up in fourth place but with a higher score than previously earned. Winter Percussion ended up in 6th place, but also with a higher score. Winter programs are solely supported by The ABFOM.
Uniforms. Michelle Christensen. 105 pillows are paid for. Some extra jerseys are being ordered in case a new order is sent of the producer needs more. Will order a few extra. The pants are going back up on e-Bay. A Memorial Day Parade memo will go out. Seniors are to drop off uniforms with a check for the cost of dry-cleaning.
Music Banquet. Michelle Christensen. Invitations should be her next week before Spring break. Donna Bottari is heading up the awards committee. Susan Krikorian and Beth McDonough are working on student lists. DJ Teak will provide music at a cost of $475.
Proposed by-law change. Susanne Brozek.
A motion was made, seconded and approved to amend the by-laws to Article VII, Section 2f, as follows:
“The President shall have one year minimum experience within the prior three years as a coordinator, chairperson, or elected officer of Acton Boxborough Friends of Music. Exceptions to this qualification may be made by a majority vote of the executive board, coordinators, and chairpersons of committees established in Section 1a at a regularly scheduled meeting.”
A motion was made, seconded, and approved to adjourn. Next meeting Monday, May 04, 2009.
